Always a Next Time?

With only six weeks before the election, a number of very bright, politically-astute friends are increasingly upset about the Kerry campaign, and with good reason. They question not only the tactics of the candidate but the candidate himself -- his character and ability. They don’t think he’s dishonest or venal; rather, they wonder whether he’s got a functional mind. And they are running out of patience. Clinging to the shibboleths that he’s a late finisher and a good closer ain’t enough.

One issue is the fact that the former national guardsman who appears to be the source of the Bush-didn’t-serve documents knocked on the Kerry door a bunch of times but no one answered. I had the same experience over the last two years. So did another friend of mine with the credentials to be heard. He said "they never even bothered to return my call. The Republicans, on the other hand, had a top person call at last to find out what I wanted."

He added, "This is why the Dems are in trouble--they DO act like elitists. And they couldn't have found a better elitist front man than Kerry. I've interviewed him and found him great, but with his $3,000 suits and $500 shirts, and plummy delivery, he's a poster child for the elite."

The fact that Kerry is losing support of women is equally damning. If Bush is elected, you can be sure he will get a couple of Supreme Court appointments, which will result in abortion being made illegal in the United States. Are American women that stupid or is Kerry that unappealing?

If the Massachusetts Democrat continues on this path, if he alienates even his core, the report is going to be that a whole bunch of well-meaning folks threw up their hands and said, Well, I guess we’ll have to wait until next time. Too many, who were disgusted with Gore, did that the last time, not realizing how much damage Bush could do. They need to think again. There might not be a next time.

And that’s SetonnoteS...I’m Tony Seton.
