Television Mind
In a thoughtful article written by a Scot journalist, the conclusion was drawn that considering the Bush record, Kerry should be up by ten points instead of being down by that number. What with the economy, Iraq and the rest of the disaster litany. The reporter takes the Democrat fully and fairly to task for providing a flip-flopping record and his breath-catchingly inept campaign.
The Kerry campaign does indeed seem like a train wreck., which is all the more tragic when one considers what four more years of havoc The Bush Boy might wreak. One can point a finger at the media for mis-covering this administration and the campaign. Ultimately, however, the fault lies with the American public for buying into the lies and ignoring the facts, because the truth is out there and has been all the time.
How else can one explain a woman supporting a man who would stack the Supreme Court to overturn Roe-v-Wade? How could any parent endorse a warmonger who could send their child to a meaningless death? The only way to explain people going against their own wishes -- against basic common sense and decency -- is by presuming that they are exercising extraordinary sloth, willful ignorance or they’re in pathological denial.
The other night I happened to see a prime time program called The King of Queens, a piece of trash sitcom that is probably not the worst of the lot, but which is so cheesy and banal that a healthy person would be embarrassed to watch it. And yet tens of millions of Americans spend much of their waking time watching this detritus. Like their president, they don’t read; they plunk themselves down in front of the idiot box and numb out what’s left of their brains.
They call this entertainment as they bathe themselves in the stupidity, the deceit and the aspirations of low-life characters and then embody these destructively low standards. Of course they would vote for Bush over Kerry.
