Circular Firing Squad
A report last week said that Donna Brazile was the front-runner to take the fallen reins of the Democratic Party. In case her name doesn’t ring a loud bell for you, she was Al Gore’s campaign manager in 2000. It’s a toss-up whether her advice or his taking it was the dumber move, over and over again. Brazile, like Condi Rice, rose to prominence because of her sex and color, proving that incompetence is an equal opportunity employee. How liberating.
Former Energy Secretary Bill Richardson is said to be another under consideration for the DNC post, which will be decided in February, by a vote of party functionaries. Richardson is in the running because despite his anglo name, he’s actually part-Hispanic. And with the Democrats, color seems to count more than brains.
Also said to be in the running is Howard Dean. The former Vermont governor and still a doctor was bounced out of the presidential primaries in Iowa last January after the catastrophic implosion of his candidacy. Dean was seen as a hot head at the time, while Kerry the plodder rose phoenix-like from the ashes based on the perception that he was the candidate who had the best shot at unseating The Bush Boy. Dunno if Dean could have won, but there’s no doubt he would have brought more to the Democratic side of the mano-a-mano competition.
A principal reason why the Dems lost, again, was because they are incessantly divided. Their over-broad multi-culturalism, over-the-top inclusiveness has meant a vanilla-ization of anything resembling a platform of principles. Since the Bushies seem to have won based on values, you’d think maybe the donkeys would ask themselves what values they stand for.
Affirmative action? Open borders? Bi-lingualism? That’s fine if you stand for everything. It’s disastrous if you’re trying to organize a large number of hard-working, tax-paying, god-fearing, patriotic Americans into an effective political force. Unless you’re working for the opposition.
