Lots to Do

There are some folks out there kinda unhappy with the results of the voting on Tuesday. There’s gonna be a whole lot more folks a whole lot more unhappy when the results of the voting are seen up close and personal down the road just a bit.

Like adults trying to pay of their children’s education and having to take of their own parents as well. Like public school test scores sliding deeper into the range of third world performance. Like the creation of vast new drug smuggling operations bringing in prescription pharmaceuticals from Mexico and Canada.

Those folks who are happy now won’t be when then see that staying the course will take them over the edge of the economic cliff. It is the economy, stupid. Do the math. Take off your shoes and socks if you need to. And if you still think the numbers add up, how are you going to feel when your children are off on foreign soil fighting for reasons that are all too unclear.

There’s an irony to note. Another year or two down the road, if Americans are asked how they voted in the last presidential election, you can be sure that ten million people who didn’t will say they voted for Kerry.

Personally, I’m glad it’s over, even with these results. Tuesday night was ugly. But Wednesday, the pressure was noticeably lighter, and the communications e-whizzing in and out talked truly about the darkness, but also, importantly, about moving forward.

This is not about just not giving up. We have to get off the old political bandwagon, stop fighting the last war. Rather, we need to pioneer in a new direction, one that eschews the dinosauric dependency on money and focuses on nominating candidates who have intellect, compassion, vision and humor. People we will be proud to endorse and support. Leaders who have our children’s children’s lives as the guiding principle of their governance.

Yup. Lots to do.

And that’s SetonnoteS...I’m Tony Seton.
