Values-Schmalues

The implication that Bush voters have higher moral values is an obscenity in itself. People who voted for the incumbent -- whose record of evasion and invasion was probably the worst in our history -- don’t have a clue about morality. They voted on the basis of ignorance, greed, and fear. For my otherwise thoughtful friends, I’ll toss out this life line: they couldn’t stand Kerry.

I’ll also observe that people who wrapped themselves in the values flag were congratulating themselves for a morality that has little or nothing to do with Christianity; they are miles and miles away from the most basic tenets of the eponymous teachings. Their hollow Bible-thumping disgraces the very essence of the Christ Consciousness. May they all be tossed into the lake of fire. Oops, that’s their plan for us.

I think anyone paying attention must conclude that rather than religious doctrine, it is mostly likely a deep-seated personal issue that so drives some people to so strenuously oppose homosexuality and women’s reproductive rights. In the case of the former, one suspects that the most virulent opponents are actually afraid that they themselves are homosexuals. In fact, it’s not implausible to venture that many of them know that they are and that they are trying to divert attention to avoid being discovered.

As regards the more primitive of the anti-choicers, you just have to know that they are unhinged about all sex, especially the sex they’re not having. These people, who insist that they have the right to tell women what they might do with their bodies, have been scurrilously tilting the argument away from rational debate and search for better solutions by calling themselves pro-life and the other side pro-abortion. Horse-hockey...everyone is pro-life. No one is pro-abortion, especially those who have gone through it. It’s rather a question of having a spiritual intellect that can distinguish between a zygote and a being.

Most of our great social leaders -- Jesus, Gandhi, King -- were liberals. They loved people, even those with whom they disagreed. They believed in an innate human potential for greatness. They believed in freedom, dignity, integrity, compassion and purpose. It is a disgrace to our political process -- and it is particularly the fault of the news media -- for incurring and allowing such a slanderous besmirching of true human values as was seen during this past election. It’s most regrettable the truth hasn’t been told.

And that’s SetonnoteS...I’m Tony Seton.
