Al Gore in Wolfs Clothing
Theres an old joke about the fill-in-the-blank who threw himself to the ground and missed. I wonder if that was our own veep, Al Gore. The question comes up because he or his people were incredibly dumb to hire Naomi Wolf as a consultant. Anyone with even a shred of political savvy would know that at some point, her relationship with the Gore effort would make its way into the press, and it would be revealed as yet another blunder.
Wolf, an alleged feminist and author, said that she took a pay cut at 15-grand a month to work for the Gore campaign. She took another grand pay cut to 5-grand when the first rather substantial salary was revealed a week earlier. Wolf is defended by other crypto-feminists who say that men would have been paid that and more, which means that anyone who thinks this bimbette was overpaid is a sexist.
Uh-huh. Wolf was brought in to help Al Gore seem more like a man. In the current parlance, hes too much of a beta male which is weak and uncommanding and he needs to be more of an alpha male, like Bill Clinton. God forbid, but they do have a point. Gore is regularly charged with being wooden, and I think its not because hes stands tall, but because he has all the umph of an unwavering plant.
I dont question that he needs to come off more assertively. They already tried trotting out his wife Tipper boy, that names a clue to tell us that her husband is sexy. Gimme a break. The second lady and we use the term here loosely goes on national television to inform us that she finds her husband sexy. Thank you for sharing. And choice number two was Strom Thurmond?
The problem in trying to get Al Gore to act more like a man is that he doesnt really have much to work with. Beyond his obvious and crippling identity crisis, hes just not a beat-em-up kinda guy. Camille Paglia, who is to thought what pee is to wine, calls Wolf a "lightweight". Thats praise with a faint damn.
The big problem with all of this is that Gore has proven yet again that he is not a leader. I mean, here is a guy who has a "message team" as part of his campaign. What kind of leader needs to have a message team?
Gores got it backward. Sorta like the ex-mayor of a local town of 10-thousand who just won election to the city council. Claiming victory, she announced, now its time to learn about the issues and what can be done about them.
Hey, Al...sir...first you be a man, your own man, and then you run for office.
