Tarnished White Hats

Before Americans knew the truth about our atrocious treatment of the natives, they watched cowboy-‘n-Indian movies, relishing the obvious distinction between the good guys and the bad. No wonder today’s muddle of white hats and black, with many of our would-be heroes self-impaled, it’s often tough figuring out for which side to root. Remember when we used to think that the FBI was serious about keep us safe and sound?

The FBI has now admitted involvement in dozens of murders in the Boston area, carried out by their informants. Yes, you read it right, the FBI was involved in murders so as to keep their snitches happy. In addition to allowing and enabling the killings, the FBI also knowingly sent innocent people to prison for the same reasons. Regrettably, the bureau people who sanctioned these actions will not be going to prison.

That isn’t stopping the genii at the Justice Department from pushing the FBI harder on national security. The Ashcroftians have ordered the feds to pay more attention to suspected terrorists who attempt to purchase guns. This after it was discovered that a dozen people on the government’s main terrorist watch list had bought firearms in the past eight months. Point one, these are just the folks who are buying firearms through legal channels. Point two, which means that these individuals are either incredibly stupid or not terrorists.

Meanwhile, the Senate approved a measure that will make it easier for FBI agents to demand financial records from casinos, car dealerships and other businesses. If they are doing such a great job with records of firearms transactions, they should really burn up the track with the ostensibly more benign.

I don’t know where the FBI went wrong or if maybe they were always wrong and we just didn’t know the truth. It was certainly an obscene, perverted mess under Hoover. With their famed laboratory discredited, with their ballistic test procedures scorned, with many of its cases jeopardized by sloppy work, it’s hard to feel our hard-earned tax dollars are being well spent.

The good news is that we have criminals like bank robber Stephen David Walker. His disguise was a square piece of flannel hanging over his face, held on his head by his hat. Only he hadn’t cut eye holes into the cloth and had to keep lifting it up to see. On his way out of the bank, he bumped head first into the door, knocking off his disguise in front of witnesses. He was captured a short time later.

We shouldn’t have to count on people like that for our security.

And that’s SetonnoteS...I’m Tony Seton.
