Hypochristy
The dishonesty of the pseudo-Christians is enough to make a dyslexic doubt the existence of his Dog. They insist that theirs is the highest morality, while they cheer an invasion of a country half-way around the world, ardently support capital punishment, and generally endorse political candidates who publically challenge the value of intellect in general and individual thought in particular.
We might ask these frauds why they think they have a right to dictate their attitudes to others. Since Americans tromp around the planet promoting democracy, maybe the religion with the most adherents should tell the rest of the world what and how everyone else should worship.
Our faux Christians, especially the zealous fundamentalists, have all the consistency of a fallen souffle. They are angrily insistent that their religious beliefs trump everyone else’s rights, including those of women who would have abortions and couples of the same gender who would marry. They raise their children without such vital information as how their own bodies function; surely that is child abuse. And they push for the tacit elimination of the Constitutional doctrine of separation of church and state.
The tragic irony in their sociopathic excess is that their beliefs are in contravention of the ideals of the Christ Consciousness. They follow the dogma of the self-perpetuating church, instead of the wisdom of their own proclaimed savior. They promote discrimination against any and all who don't adhere to their own good book, dissing the good books of others, when their own Christ celebrated the open mind and unconditional love. Christ respected women equally with men, but the Christian church denigrates them to second-class status; hmm, just like the Islamic fundamentalists.
Why do we pay any attention to religious figures any more, since so many of them have been discredited for intellectual and moral perversion? Indeed, all group religion should be held up to the light of truth, to illuminate the vast tissue of lies and outright propaganda that most preach. The real truth of a supreme being -- and it’s there in black and white in most of the good books -- is that the god-hood exists within each of us. And incumbent on us for this gift is the responsibility not to flog church doctrine but to live in a godlike way. That is, we must do what is right.
More than an opiate, religion is a crutch for the ignorant and the fearful. Republicans have had their way with these growing, frightened masses. The party had coalesced the terrified around chilling cowardice and immoral values, manipulating them into a mindless fervor. Millions of Americans now demonstrate an embarrassing lack of courage to stand up for what is right and have instead cowered behind the political skirts of some of the most immoral leaders in our history.
If this needs to be said, Democratic castrati don’t deserve a whisper of support but the White House and their Congressional accomplices do need to be stopped until we can find new leadership in 2008. It’s not about party or political labels or ideology, it’s about our country.
We must spread the word to all honest, brave, truly-patriotic Americans to grasp the imperative that faces our nation. They need to recognize the hypochristy of Falwell and Frist, Dobson and Bush, Robertson and Cheney. They must go to the polls and replace the corrupt and venal politicians who have sold out to the oil and pharmaceutical companies with statesmen who can get our country back on track. The alternative is beyond dreadful.
