Liberal Media .. Not

 

Any who insists that the mainstream media has a liberal bias either doesn’t know the facts, or is deliberately lying. Mostly you hear such nonsense from wing-nut parrots who hear the charge made Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly and their abettors. These people lack the intellect or the focus to comprehend a very obvious truth. The mainstream media is centrist, if anything, and cowardly in the main.

This charge of liberalism was leveled during the Reagan administration. It was zealously prosecuted by The Great Communicator’s hatchet man, Ed Meese. As a result, the media bent over backwards to avoid seeming liberal and they haven’t stood up straight since. From the time Walter Cronkite left the anchor chair in 1981, the major networks have been little more than background noise; milquetoast tut-tutters when it came to some major transgression even they couldn’t ignore.

Instead of performing their vital task of unveiling the vast corruption of government by special interests – of both Republicans and Democrats – they squandered precious news hours on O-J, Britney, Paris, and Anna Nicole.

And it’s not been just the broadcasters. The two dominant newspapers in our country – The New York Times and The Washington Post – both endorsed the 2003 invasion of Iraq. That wasn’t very liberal. Nor was it responsible. They abrogated their responsibility as the fourth estate, leaving the nation in the hands of criminals.

The American news media has been AWOL for decades. They haven’t been liberal. If anything they’ve favored the Republican point of view. It’s obvious looking back – at the ardor with which they went after the Clinton White House and their silence when it came to the current administration.

The bottom line is that it was never a matter of political stripe; it was a matter of journalistic ethics, or rather lack of them. The supplication to the powers-that-be has allowed our nation to be pushed to the edge. Shame on them.
