Bits & Pieces

Bits and pieces from this reporter’s notebook.

Da-deet-da-deet-.....Ya gotta wonder why the candidates say they need to prep for a 90 minute debate. They are only responsible for maybe 30 minutes. Surely they can know that much about the job they seek without having to cram for it.

Da-deet-da-deet...A new study that says American children are three times more likely to be on prescription antidepressants and stimulants, and twice as likely to be on anti-psychotic drugs, as some of their peers in Europe. Among children five to nine, Americans are four times more likely than the Europeans to be medicated.

Da-deet-da-deet...Don’t worry that the California budget was 86 days late, and next year’s economy looks worse. Our governor today signed a message that outlaws text-messaging while driving. If it weren’t for the fact that the idiots who needed to be stopped were also injuring and killing innocents, we might have not interfered.

Da-deet-da-deet...The donkeys are showing the same ethics as the elephants. Speaker Nancy Pelosi is keeping Charles Rangel as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. This, despite the fact that the 78-year-old, 19-term Harlem Democrat is being investigated three ways for questionable financial dealings.

Da-deet-da-deet...The judge in the corruption trial of Alaska senator Ted Stevens says that some luminary witnesses might be called, including former secretary of state Colin Powell, and senators Kennedy, Leahy, Inouye, and Hatch. One wonders what they would have to say.

Da-deet-da-deet...The family of a police officer slain almost 20 years ago is angry that less than two hours before he was scheduled to die, the convicted murderer got a reprieve. There’s a ton of new evidence that the guy wasn’t the killer. Surely the family would like the actual killer to be executed instead of someone else.

And that’s SetonnoteS...I’m Tony Seton.
