The Earth Isn’t Flat
Confucius said, "A man who has committed a mistake and doesn't correct it, is committing another mistake." You weren’t there for the Confucian declaration, but you might have watched the Bushian news conference when he was asked what he had done wrong, what he would do over, and he said he couldn’t think of anything.
We are at a point now, after eight years of a disaster-prone administration, when it’s time for a substantial segment of our population to do it for him – to admit he was a mistake – for themselves and for the country.
Now is the time because that 25% or so of the American people still refuse to own up to the depravity and corruption that had us invade Iraq, sanctioned torture, shredded the Constitution, and brought the world to the brink of economic collapse.
These are the same people who are supporting the McCain-Palin ticket, and their stubbornness, ignorance, and immorality should not longer be countenanced. There is no excuse for backing the Republican nominees other than they put party ahead of nation or they are racists.
The lies that they cling to as reasons for endorsing their candidates over Obama-Biden are as scurrilous as they are blatant. They take words out of context to change their meaning. They claim Obama is a Muslim. They say he wants to make the United States into a socialist country. They say he undermines our troops.
This while an emotionally incontinent political anachronism has placed his candidacy in the hands of the most venal political manipulators our country has ever seen. Traitors to the very foundations of our great history, they put the dangerously primitive, stunningly under-qualified Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from possible Armageddon.
There are explanations for supporting the GOP ticket over the Democrats, but they are not only without merit, they are ignoble. It’s time to own up to this mistake.
