The Political Scene

It sure is an interesting political scene.

An Associated Press poll says the race tightened after the final debate, and Barack Obama has only a one-point lead over John McCain. Most object observers thought Obama did better than McCain. No wonder most other national surveys say the Dem’s lead expanding, some say into double digits.

Pew Research says media coverage has been more negative for McCain than for Obama. They report that slightly less than a third of the Dem’s coverage was negative while more than half of the Rep’s coverage was negative. Considering the despicable nature of the McCain campaign, and how Obama has maintained a relatively even keel, why would the results to be otherwise?

Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton co-authored a piece in the New York Daily News on Wednesday in which he warned that Osama bin Laden might try to influence the November 4th by attacking the U.S. again. Bratton wrote that bin Laden preferred the Republican since McCain "is more likely to engender Muslim anger and resentment than would his opponent." The piece continued,"Put simply: Bin Laden probably realizes it could become markedly more difficult to paint the United States as the 'Great Satan' with a new president who is admired internationally."

Bratton is backed up by an Al Qaeda-linked website that says McCain is the one. Al-Hesbah declares that "impetuous" Republican presidential candidate will exhaust the United States militarily and economically.

Finally, the Gotham City Council has disgraced itself by approving a measure that will allow Michael Bloomberg to ignore the two-term limit on being mayor of the nation’s largest city. The vote was 29-to-22. Even if Bloomberg had been a great mayor, if he were a man of integrity, he would have sought the rules change to apply to the next mayor, not himself.
