What Sarah Might Have Said
Sarah Palin’s once-rising star is showing some descent and some tarnish. As it should be. She lacks the intellect and character to be a candidate for the highest office in the land. Had she been the right person, she would have delivered an entirely different speech to the Republican convention, and maybe it would have sounded something like this."Good evening, Republicans, to all of you of every political persuasion, from Theodore Roosevelt to Dwight Eisenhower to Ronald Reagan. I am honored to be addressing you here tonight, and to the millions of Americans – Republican, Democrat and independent – who are watching on television at home.
"I am truly humbled by this nomination. For someone with my limited experience on the national stage and in the international arena, it may take a leap of faith for some people to think that I am ready for this exalted position...vice president of the United States of America.
"But let me say that while I may not have the long political resume, I bring to this race, and to the office, credentials that every American can appreciate. I am a wife and mother who knows the challenges of daily life, making a budget, keeping food in the pantry, managing a busy household.
"That may not define the job of the vice president, but it surely means that I am in touch with real Americans from our heartland to our big cities.
"As mayor of small town, I could see the direct results of regulations and taxes on my neighbors. As governor of Alaska, I presided over a thousands of employees and a budget in the billions of dollars.
"There is much I don’t know about the fast-changing world of global politics, but I know the will of the American people. You can be sure that I will work for a better future for your children and mine."
Alas, that’s not who Sarah Palin is.
