Bits & Pieces

Bits and pieces from this reporter’s notebook.

Da-deet-da-deet...I’m an animal lover, but the PETA people are over the top and not slowing down. They now want to have Punxsutawney officials use a robotic ground hog at their annual festival.

Da-deet-da-deet...A Pueblo, Colorado inmate is in deeper doo-doo after trying to arrange for her boyfriend to smuggle drugs in to her. She made the arrangements on a phone monitored by jail officials.

Da-deet-da-deet...My Granite State friend Wayne wonders why California is so slow to adopt equal rights for gays. "Why don't they look at New Hampshire? We have legalized gay marriage with absolutely no impact on the life of the state, the state of marriage, or the birth rate." Case closed.

Da-deet-da-deet...Toyota has some fixes to make; well, a lot of them. But the headlines written like epitaphs are nonsense. So much of reporting today starts with the premise that the sky is falling.

Da-deet-da-deet...Authorities are still searching for the black boxes from the Ethiopian Airlines jet that crashed into the eastern Mediterranean last week. They hear the pings but unless they recover the boxes, no one will know why the plane went down.

Da-deet-da-deet...As more comes out of the deplorable behavior and character of John Edwards and the people around him, one wonders how so many could have been so fooled by him. Certainly the mainstream media failed us...again.

Da-deet-da-deet...An arbitration panel has told the owner of the former World Trade Centers site to meet his obligations. Larry Silverstein bought the sixteen acres weeks before Nine-Eleven. Since the attack he has done everything he can slow restoration of the site. It seems so indicative of our nation today.

Da-deet-da-deet...Finally, a federal arbitration panel has ordered FEMA to cough up half-a-billion dollars to replace the Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Katrina blew through almost five years ago.
