Axed by His Own Gore  (9/30/99)
It’s never pleasant to watch someone self-destruct, but Gore bought his own ticket. Maybe it’s Clinton Fatigue that’s costing him, or that he was always a paper tiger. My money’s on both.

Will Justice Be Done?  (9/24/99)
It will be interesting to see how this reasonable and humble request will be processed by the Clinton’s. Whether the brouhaha about releasing the Puerto Ricans will so muddy — and perhaps poison -- the waters swirling around Amy’s case.
[For more on Amy's situation, read I Beg Your Pardon below and check out the Links.]

No Trump Is the Best Trump (9/21/99)
Trump has proven that someone with lots of money can make lots more, and in our current era of keeping score with dollars instead of ideas, he markets mindless ostentation to the undiscerning and gaud to the godless.

I Beg Your Pardon (9/20/99)
Prosecutors racked up conspiracy convictions, and sent away for many years wives, mothers, and girlfriends for something as innocent as passing along a single phone message, literally.

Enjoy Voting Again (9/15/99)
He has intellect, humility, and candor, and it’s hard to think of any qualities our country needs more today.

Gore-ing the Reds  (9/30/99)
Throughout history those in power have always feathered their own nests, and have held onto power by doling out favors to the movers-’n-shakers in the military, business, and organized religion.

Loose Change  (9/29/99)
People who fail to process a tragedy fail to honor the victims. Their deaths shall have been in vain if you don’t grow past the pain and recognize the value in what they gave.

Politics Ain’t Greek No More  (9/28/99)
The Indiana newspaper scion was born for the links; all he wanted to do was play golf, and not have mommy yell at him. Mommy, of course, is Marilyn Quayle, the mother of his children, and a dominatrix of the political wife sort.

Radio Voices  (9/27/99)
After extensive testing, I’ve discovered that the reason most of them have those voices is that they aren’t deep at all. Rather, it’s just the sound of words echoing in an empty head.

Leadership w/ Morality  (9/23/99)
Of course we can have a moral man who leads well. Indeed, why wouldn’t a person who is a strong and vital leader naturally be a good role model?

Lawn Order (9/22/99)
Or sometimes Ubiquitous Bill is just completely mindless. Is anyone really so bored that they would tune into a show about "Children whose fathers were sperm donors"?

Government by Clumsy (9/17/99)
Why is it that we not only back the wrong side for so long, but when we finally pick right one, we then fail to implement policy effectively?

Courting Injustice (9/16/99)
It is not likely that the courts will allow this travesty to proceed very far, but wouldn’t it be grand to hear a judge slap these people down in a way that is as instructive as it is outraged?

Hitching up some Briefs (9/14/99)
I found a policy for only 50-bucks a month. It’s catastrophic insurance, to protect me from financial ruin. I otherwise describe it as kicking in an hour before burial.

Squandering Campaign Dollars (9/13/99)
Mindless party die-hards who are more concerned with winning the seat than putting someone intelligent and honest in it. These are the people who climb on the biggest and strongest horse, even if he’s lame.

Happy Birthday to Moi (9/10/99)
I suppose that’s the role of a columnist or commentator, to raise some of the broader and complex issues that often seem impenetrable and to massage them verbally...to pre-digest them, if you will, into mind-size bites.

No News Is No News (9/9/99)
Radio news is pitiful up here in the wilds of the North State, where the choice is between the pedantic excess of NPR, or the cheesey coverage by ABC and CNN.

Assimilation, Manipulation, and Dissemination (9/8/99)
Of course, that leaves out a lot of people. They be the masses who do what they are told to do. They sit in front of the television for hours on end, their mouths open but not their minds.

In The News... (9/7/99)
When you have fewer voices and when it’s all about money, then you stop hearing the truth. They broadcast to the masses, and they tell them what they want to hear.

"The Vinegar Tasters"  (9/6/99)
Life isn’t a rehearsal. Which explains why Lao-Tse is smiling, because according to the Tao, vinegar tastes like vinegar, and life is what it is.

The FIB Story  (9/3/99)
Yes, the FBI shares the blame with the ATF, but their lies for the past six years about their actual responsibility in creating the inferno is nothing short of its own horror show.

Busting the Feds  (9/2/99)
When Reagan ratcheted up budget for the anti-drug effort in the early Eighties to over $20 billion a year, he also ratcheted up the value of the contraband and made the drug trade so lucrative that the amount of stuff entering the country actually quadrupled.

Sex Sells Everything  (9/1/99)
Sports, cars, guns, and sex. What’s not to like?

Commercially Yours
Either they're not paying attention, or they don't think that we are.

The King Is Dead
I was in that line, not as a fan, but as the only network newsman in the area when the gates opened. And folks, he's dead.

Funny, You Don't Look Jewish
Those with a perverted sense of irony might say that for Jews, this sense of superiority might create a cross to bear.

Burying Nixon, Again
It is probably true that every man's death diminishes me, but Richard Nixon's by not very much.

Television the Mythmaker
Cosby shuffled and slurred his way through the program as though he had dropped in drunk on a middle school acting class.

George Bush Hedges Badly
His willingness to risk all that he had to look forward to raises more than an eyebrow about his character.

Cops, Guns and Nerves
Oh, they should wear high boots, and be able to jump high and backward without falling.

Limits on Free Speech
At risk of sending the ACLU into apoplexy, I would have to say yes.

Bits & Pieces  (8/27/99)
Call me naive, but I get a little skittish when people back away from information that they consider accurate, but it doesn't say what they want.

Pick Your Billion
Just imagine if we wind up with a system where people will have to literally earn their living.

Bits & Pieces    (8/25/99)
It’s a shame that the corporate suits don’t take the opportunity to inform the public, instead of just engaging them with salacious scandal-mongering and there-but-for-the-grace-of-god tragedies dripping in pathos.

Bits & Pieces   (9/1/99)
Monica Lewinsky is reportedly getting it off with Jenny Craig. Company officials were quick to point out that Clinton’s concupiscent concubine is not a spokeswoman for the weight loss program, but maybe only because she hasn’t completed it.

"Of, relating to, or dependent on charity"  (8/25/99)
Recently, I considered some of the words that might be pushing the envelope if everyone should hear and understand everything. Words like euphemism, obsequious, or ubiquitous. How ‘bout eleemosynary?

Bang, Bang You're Dumb (8/26/99)
Eliminating all private ownership of firearms would probably cut down on firearm deaths, but that ain’t gonna happen with the current level of chaos in our society. As long as people are afraid and believe that guns provide protection, the idea won’t fly.

Marijuana and Myth (8/24/99)
Regardless of the level of their awareness, they probably experience a spiritual familiarity that is both comforting and encouraging. No wonder so many people smoke marijuana, and at the risk of sometimes severe legal consequences. They reduce stress and feel better about themselves and about life.

Learning at Columbine (8/30/99)
Before forgetting, we should first understand at what happened and how, so these events won't be repeated.
