Bits & Pieces

Bits and pieces from this reporter’s notebook.

Da-deet-da-deet...Sarah Palin is going to be a commentator on Fox "news" and if that is a surprise to anyone, I’ve got a bridge to Brooklyn for you at a good price. In fact, it seems odd to some that it’s taken this long. But I’ll bet dollars to donuts that the exposure will actually hurt Palin. She lacks the intellect and discipline to be any good at the job and she is unlikely to grow into it.

Da-deet-da-deet...The Black-Robed Nine embarrassed themselves again by over-ruling an Appellate decision that would have allowed YouTube coverage of the gay marriage trail in San Francisco. Stephen Breyer was the lone dissenter in the decision to stay coverage. He noted that a stay should only be ordered if "irreparable harm" is threatened by going ahead. (They are so unsupreme.)

Da-deet-da-deet...Jay Leno was never prime time material. What talent he had, according to the ratings, was appreciated by people in bed waiting to fall asleep. When NBC moved Leno to ten o’clock, millions of Americans who would have waited through the late local news for a stale laugh, didn’t any more, and the ratings at some stations dropped 30% on what was supposed to be a major revenue producer.

Da-deet-da-deet...The new book about the 2008 election is scathing of most of the stars of that story. "Game Change" particularly exorcizes the Edwards – yes, both John and Elizabeth – and their stunningly untoward behavior. Most revealing in the book is how few of the important truths were covered by the main stream media. Much of what is in the book is important, and would have been valuable to a nation selecting its leader.

Da-deet-da-deet...And finally this headline, without comment, from the Agence-France Presse: Blast kills eight insurgents at Pakistan militant safe house.
