Whackos
More proof that we have passed the too-many-rats-in-a-box stage.
First, from York, England where a priest has told his congregation that it is all right for the poor among them to shoplift so that they can feel more in the spirit of the season. He said they shouldn’t shoplift at small shops, where they might not be able to afford the theft. Said one wag, maybe they should rip off the church instead.
Second, back in the good ole U-S-of-A, three stories having to do with women calling 911. In Massachusetts, a mother called at one in the morning because her 14-year-old son wouldn’t stop playing video games and was walking around turning on all the lights in the house. In Texas, a woman who has called 911 some thirty times in the past six month most recently rang up the cops to complain that her husband wouldn’t eat his dinner. And in Indiana, a mother called the cops because her six-year-old daughter was seen shoplifting a trifle...by her older sister.
Third, there’s a video on YouTube that claims that H-P is racist because their face recognition webcams don’t track black people’s faces, only whites. As even an unaccomplished snapper will realize in a flash, a bright background will overpower a dark foreground. This isn’t racism but stupidity.
Fourth, the American general in charge of 22,000 troops in Northern Iraq issued an edict in November that meant court martial for any who got pregnant, or made them so. This caused considerable distress, and his boss announced that such would not be the case as of the first of the year.
There are all too many whackos and dopes out there, a function of over-population and the fact that civilization – and we’re stretching the term here – fails to value intellect and logic enough to impart such essentials to the succeeding generation.
